Somatic Work for Trauma

Using body-based approaches to process trauma gently and gradually. Whether or not you remember specific events, this work can support grounding, regulation, and the gradual release of what’s been held inside.

Somatic Work for Trauma

Trauma doesn’t always come with a clear memory or story. Sometimes, it lives in the body. Through tight shoulders, a racing heart, a sense of being on guard even when you’re safe. Somatic trauma therapy begins here, not with pressure to talk, but with presence. We start gently, helping your nervous system begin to unwind what it’s had to hold onto.

At Modern Holistic Psychiatry, we approach trauma through body-based support. Whether you’re experiencing dissociation, shutdown, chronic anxiety, or just a sense that something isn’t settled, somatic release therapy can offer another way in. This isn’t about revisiting everything that happened. It’s about making space for what your body still remembers, and beginning to release it, gradually and with care.

Somatic Trauma Release Rooted in Safety

Somatic therapy techniques help you reconnect with your body, not by pushing through discomfort, but by building trust, between you and your system. We might begin with somatic exercises for trauma that support grounding and orientation, gently increasing your capacity to feel without becoming overwhelmed. Over time, we may work with somatic therapy exercises like body scans, breathwork, and visualization, tailored to how your nervous system responds.

This kind of somatic release therapy can be especially helpful if talk therapy has felt limited, or if your symptoms don’t always respond to logic or language. You don’t need to have the right words. Together, we listen for what your body is saying, and support it in moving from survival into regulation. Our work may also include parts work, supportive reflection, and medication conversations if that feels right. As always, the process is collaborative, guided by consent, curiosity, and care.
