The Vision of Modern Holistic Psychiatry
Welcome to Modern Holistic Psychiatry, where devoted time and attention meets the integration of body, mind, and spirit.
Since its inception, Modern Holistic Psychiatry has sought to address the conceptual, practical, and spiritual fragmentation of mental healthcare as it is often practiced today.

About Me
Francesca Rome-Marie, PMHNP-BC, is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner who honed her skills at the prestigious Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. With a rich history as a certified HIV specialist and primary care provider for the LGBTQIA+ community in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood, she has always been deeply invested in the human experience and committed to helping others. Her journey into holistic wellness began when she trained as a yoga instructor at the Integral Yoga Institute of New York, where she became the youngest certified instructor at that time.
My Qualifications
Continuing her quest for knowledge, Francesca earned a Bachelor of Arts in Gender and Sexuality Studies from The New School, where she delved into feminist philosophies and psychoanalytic thought, all while exploring art and creativity through analogue film photography. Her dedication to social justice and feminist thought naturally steered her toward sexual health and rights, leading her to serve the broader NYC medical community as a gynecological teaching associate while also being involved in sex work activism.
Simultaneously, she was involved with the Harm Reduction Institute and the Anti-Violence Project, while also becoming an on-call emergency room advocate for survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault at Beth Israel Emergency Department. Francesca maintains her commitment today to the mental health and well-being of intimate partner violence survivors.
Francesca’s clinical academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Family Practice, both from Pace University, along with a Post-Master’s in Psychiatric Nursing from Johns Hopkins University.

My Experience
Francesca has a history of engaging with psychoanalytic groups of various orientations, including having a personal Lacanian psychoanalysis. Today Francesca maintains active connections with GIFRIC (Groupe Interdisciplinaire Freudien de Recherche et d'Intervention Cliniques et Culturelles, or in English, the Interdisciplinary Freudian Group for Research and Clinical and Cultural Interventions) and SPIIRAL (Society for Psychoanalytic and Interdisciplinary Interventions and Research After Lacan).
Driven by a desire to expand her impact globally and engage in humanitarian work, Francesca earned a Master's in Disaster Management from Copenhagen University while volunteering with Danish Muslim Aid to coordinate aid projects across diverse regions.
Francesca also had the opportunity to study with the esteemed humanitarian worker Dame Claire Bertschinger, author of the acclaimed book Moving Mountains, while earning a prestigious Certificate in Tropical Nursing from The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
However, just as she was beginning interviews with Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders, life took an unexpected turn, redirecting her path.
Francesca ultimately chose instead to focus on creating a mental health practice that filled a void she had encountered both as a primary care provider and as a patient— thus, Modern Holistic Psychiatry was born.
Since its inception, Modern Holistic Psychiatry has sought to address the conceptual, practical, and spiritual fragmentation of mental healthcare as it is often practiced today.
One of the most transformative moments in the development of Modern Holistic Psychiatry's framework has been the integration of somatic approaches.
Francesca discovered the 'missing link' between her personal and professional experience with talk therapy and psychiatric, or medical interventions, unlocking a powerful way to address the mind-body connection in healing. This revelation has become a cornerstone of her practice with many patients, allowing her to offer even more comprehensive support to those seeking a deeper understanding of their mental health and their selves.
Why Work With Me
At Modern Holistic Psychiatry, care begins with time. The time to understand, to listen, and to notice. This practice was built in response to the fragmentation I witnessed, both as a provider and as a patient. Too often, we are treated as symptoms to manage, not as whole people with stories, histories, bodies, and beliefs.
I created Modern Holistic Psychiatry to be something different: a space where the clinical and the personal meet. Where prescriptions are given alongside reflection. Where we attend to what matters to you, and not only just what’s wrong.
If you’ve felt unseen or unsupported in traditional settings, or if you’re looking for care that honours complexity, curiosity, and collaboration, you’re in the right place.

How I Work
There’s no set script here. How we work together depends on what’s happening in your life, your body, and your story. Sometimes that means tending to the nervous system. Sometimes it means making space for grief. Other times, it’s about refining a prescription, or sitting with silence long enough for something true to emerge.
We move at a pace that both honours your readiness, and walks the line of encouraging growth. Whether we’re exploring trauma through somatic work, revisiting mental health prescriptions, or simply making sense of a hard season, the work is always collaborative, thoughtful, and led by the meaningful.
Over time, this becomes a space where the parts of you that felt unseen—or unspoken—can come into the light. Where you have the space to surprise yourself. Where care doesn’t just treat symptoms, but meets the whole of who you are.

What I Can Help With
People come to me for many reasons. Some are considering medication for the first time. Others want a second opinion or to revisit something that no longer feels right. Some are navigating complex emotions or life transitions. Others are living with anxiety, depression, trauma, or questions about identity and belonging.
My work often supports people who:
-
Are seeking their first connection to a therapist or psychiatrist and want to start off in a considered and deep way
-
Who value a strong long-term relationship with their healthcare providers and want a provider who also values the same thing
-
Have felt like parts of them were “left out” of therapy or psychiatry in the past
-
Are exploring holistic and somatic therapy alongside or instead of medication
-
Are feeling stuck in traditional talk therapy and want to (re)connect to the body
-
Are processing trauma or high-impact stress with care and precision
-
Need a safe, relational space to understand themselves more deeply
-
Want a more integrated approach to mental health prescriptions
Wherever you are, we’ll start from there.
